Matoke Art Studio - Exhibition Anwar

Matoke Tours is grateful to make our business out of the beauty of Uganda. Of course we focus on wildlife, culture, nature and the great apes, but there is more to Uganda then "only" that. Uganda is full of talent; We are more than proud to promote the most talented young artists in Uganda's Art scene. These people are not street artists, they don't just play around, but they are considered the future big artists. We give them a stage, so they can show their talent and skills. We welcome you in our office to have a look at their exhibitions in the Matoke Art Gallery. You can have a look at their work and be surprised by their techniques, color use and creativeness. You can buy their art work as well; Not only to bring a great souvenir from Uganda back home, but as well to have some unique piece of professional Ugandan art in your home!

Note: Matoke Art gallery is not a genuine souvenir shop. We give professional talent a stage to show on an international level what they are capable off.

In 2010 and Matoke Tours selected two great young artists; Mark Kassi and Anwar. We welcome you to read more about their background and see more about their work.

Exhibition Anwar 'Contemporary Ugandan Art'

Matoke Tours is proud to present you one of Uganda's finest Artists: Anwar

Anwar is a "self taught" artist who started painting when he was still a child. He became professional in 2001when he had his first exhibition at Tulifanya Gallery. The exhibition was planned for a month, but his work sold out in a week. Being motivated by this success, Anwar moved on and kept on working in Ngoma Art Studio up 2007, when he started up Gecko Art studio. Other Talented artists like Kint, Jjuko and Sekajjugo joined him there. Nowadays Gecko Art Studio changed its name to Ivuka Art Center and opened a branch in Kigali (Rwanda) as well. The Art work of Anwar can be described Contemporary African Art. His work can be characterized as daily life situations in a colorful and abstract way. You can recognize his work easily by his typical use of rough textures.

"Wherever he has exhibited, you will know its Anwar, because of his signature colour pattern and life paintings." Dominic Mumanguzi in "the observer"
