Day 1: Fly to Selous Game Reserve & Boat Safari
Your tour will start in the coastal city of Dar es Salaam where a 45-minute domestic flight will take you right to the heart of the largest game reserve in Africa! You will be met at the airstrip by a representative from Selous River Camp and start your exploration of the park with a boat safari on Rufiji River.
The rivers and lakes of the Selous are the lifeblood of the park and Rufiji River in particular is frequently visited by crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, hippos and several water birds, who come down to the banks for water or a cooling dip. This boat safari is a great way to get close to wildlife and is regarded by most visitors as the highlight of their stay in Selous.

Day 2: Full day safari
Today is all about exploring Selous Game Reserve. Your journey will take you through some of the most scenic wilderness areas in the world including Miombo woodlands, open grasslands and riverine forests, many areas which are still relatively untouched by human impact.
The Selous has some of the continent’s largest elephant, lion, buffalo, crocodile and hippo populations, as well as great numbers of giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, bushbuck, eland, greater kudu, leopard and antelope. It is also the best place to see the very rare African wild dog. Only a few thousand wild dogs remain in Africa and over 30% of them roam the wild and rugged landscapes of Selous Game Reserve.
Day 3: Full day safari
Safaris traditionally start at sunrise and you will have another full day to explore the wild wonders of Selous today. Depending on how intense you want your safari experience to be you can choose to take a packed lunch with you and spend the full day in the park.
Should you wish for a more relaxed pace you can go for a safari in the morning, return to the camp for lunch and some rest, before heading out again for an afternoon safari. It’s your holiday and you decide how you want to spend your time.
Day 4: Walking Safari & Flight to Dar es Salaam
Early in the morning when it is still nice and cool in the game reserve, you will go on an exciting walking safari. Few things are as thrilling as going on a bush walk in the wild. You will find that the park is a completely different place when you are removed from the constraints of a safari vehicle. You are aware of every sound and movement in the bush and you will see things at ground level that you would otherwise have missed, like fresh paw prints!
In the company of a professional ranger you will learn to identify different tracks and signs of animal presence. This is truly an exciting and educational activity. Back at the camp you will tuck into a hearty breakfast before bidding farewell to Selous.
A representative from the camp will take care of your transfer to the air strip for your flight back to Dar es Salaam airport.
Transfers into the city are not included. Should you require one or more nights in Dar es Salaam to connect with your international flight, we would be happy to arrange that for you at an additional cost.
